Lindsey Peterson, JD, PhD

Clinical Director
With ClearView Communities Since 2021

Dr. Lindsey Peterson joined ClearView Communities in March 2021 and was promoted to Clinical Director in February 2025. After completing a dual Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice, Dr. Peterson continued her graduate training in Drexel University’s joint Law and Psychology doctoral program. During her time in this program, Dr. Peterson obtained supervised clinical training providing psychological services in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, conducting juvenile and adult forensic mental health assessments, providing individual therapy in a college counseling center, conducting child psychoeducational and diagnostic evaluations, and providing clinical psychological services in an adult cognitive rehabilitation acquired brain injury inpatient unit.  Her research experience focused on the intersection of psychology and law and included projects evaluating Miranda Rights waivers, false confessions and interrogation strategies, and the development and evaluation of a juvenile justice anger management intervention.

Dr. Peterson went on to complete her internship in clinical psychology and then forensic psychology postdoctoral training at Springfield Hospital Center, a state psychiatric hospital in Maryland. She became licensed as a psychologist in Maryland and served as both a Staff Psychologist and the Director of Internship Training for the APA-accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship Program. She has experience providing psychological treatment and assessment services on both acute care and long-term units. In addition, Dr. Peterson worked as an evaluator and expert witness, conducting forensic mental health assessments for juvenile and criminal courts throughout Maryland.

Dr. Peterson has extensive experience providing individual therapy, group therapy, and comprehensive psychological assessments across a variety of clinical populations. She has focused her career treating serious and persistent mental illness, including psychotic and mood disorders (e.g., Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Severe Depression with psychotic symptoms, suicidality). She has worked with this population for over a decade and is dedicated to meeting clients experiencing severe symptoms where they are and supporting them to understand their illness and improve their functioning and quality of life. She believes a comprehensive approach, including a multidisciplinary treatment team, the community, and family and other key social supports, are critical for recovery.

Dr. Peterson also has experience treating clients experiencing anxiety and OCD, personality disorders, substance use disorders, cognitive impairment, and trauma-related conditions. Her therapeutic approach primarily draws from cognitive-behavioral and humanistic orientations to promote personal growth, resilience, and recovery. She incorporates various interventions as appropriate to the individual within the context of their goals, preferences, and culture with the goal of enhancing autonomy and well-being. She utilizes approaches including motivational interviewing, strengths-based approaches, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, behavioral and environmental modifications and interventions, and cognitive behavioral therapy. She is experienced with ongoing risk assessment and safety planning.
